Heliovolt announces management changes

Heliovolt, a company specializing in thin-film solar panels, has announced changes to its senior management, including the appointment of an interim CEO.

In a statement this week, the Austin company reported that company founder and former CEO Dr. BJ Stanberry would become chief strategy officer and chairman of the board. In his place, board member Ron Bernal became interim CEO, while the company also announced a new chief financial officer, Sanjeev Kumar.

Like many other U.S. companies, Heliovolt recently underwent some layoffs in light of the recession and the ongoing access to credit problems being encountered by the renewable energy industry and others.

"As the company continues to expand, the additional skills of our management team will support our aggressive plans to manufacture and commercialize thin-film PV modules and BIPV products for global markets," said Stanberry in a statement.

The company is preparing to take its technology into full-scale commercial production, featuring thin panels that it says have the potential to become much more efficient and less costly than traditional silicon solar panels. The company also says its materials are about 100 times thinner than silicon panels and can be directly "printed" onto glass, metals and other surfaces.
