Actor Larry Hagman highlighting benefits of solar energy

    Posted on by Nate Lew

The solar energy industry has gained a new high-profile spokesman in the form of actor Larry Hagman, who may be best known for his role as oil tycoon J.R. Ewing on the ’70s TV show Dallas.

According to Solar World USA, Hagman appeared at the Intersolar trade show in San Francisco and also owns what may be the largest residential solar array in the country, consisting of 240 solar panels.

"We can’t expect the government to pull a genie out of a bottle to ease Americans’ addictions to fossil fuels. We need to take the lead in building a solar America. It’s time to rise – and shine, baby, shine!" said Hagman, needling the "drill baby, drill" slogan espoused by the fossil fuel industry.

Hagman is also highlighting the economic benefits that American-made solar products can bring, as well as the massive environmental damage that has been inflicted by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

In a real-life parallel, Texas oil billionaire T. Boone Pickens has been doing his own work in recent years to try to convince the nation to kick its addiction to fossil fuels.
