California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill on June 27 which will provide "tax certainty" for companies that want to grow their businesses in the state.
The news source said the bill paves the way for SunEdison, which sponsored the bill, to relocate its headquarters from Baltimore to the California Peninsula. It extends tax incentives available for solar power projects. The bill also gives homes with solar power systems sold in sale-leaseback deals a tax-rate reassessment exclusion.
California law already gives properties which include solar power systems an tax-rate reassessment.
The exclusion only lasts until there is a change in ownership of the building. The news source reports that this could be an important bill amendment, as previous ambiguity of the bill caused SunEdison to freeze $1.2 billion in new solar development within the state.
According to the California Energy Commission website, there are currently 4,192.5 megawatts worth of solar power projects that have been approved by the state. There are 300 megawatts worth of projects that are still under review.
