Ontario officials say 20,000 renewable energy jobs have been created

While 10 construction jobs have been created in the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre in Toronto by installing 96 solar panels for Ontario's electric system, Ontario's Ministry of Energy said there have been 20,000 jobs created by renewable energy measures and 30,000 will come in by 2012.

Ontario's Green Energy Act has created about 2,000 large-scale Feed-in Tariff projects have been announced, according to officials. This would mean enough energy to power 900,000 homes. The Ministry of Energy said this is apart of its plan to use cleaner sources of renewable energy, such as wind, bio-energy and solar power to replace coal-fed plants.

The Green Energy Act, passed in May of 2009, looked to spark growth of renewable energy, create savings and create jobs, according to Ontario's website.

Ontario said it wants to become North America's renewable energy leader by creating the Feed-in Tariffs that generate rates for energy generated from renewable sources, gives things such as solar power the right to hook into the electric grid and implements a "smart" power grid to account for the creation of renewable energy projects.
