With a donation of $5 a month, Green Mountain Energy, a retailer of cleaner energy and carbon offset solutions, customers can help donate solar energy technology to worthy local nonprofits.
The program is known as the Green Mountain Energy Sun Club, and is available to residential electricity customers in the Con Edison service in New York City and Westchester County. Each solar donation will include an educational component for residents to learn about renewable energy.
"Every New York resident that participates in the Sun Club helps us continue to fulfill that mission." said John Holtz, director of the Eastern Region of Green Mountain. "Sun Club projects will be a shining example of the power our customers have to make a difference for the environment in the Empire State."
Green Mountain Energy is also launching a Sun Club initiative to benefit Texas nonprofits. Nonprofits interested in owning a solar installation can receive donations from the Green Mount Energy Sun Club.
Nonprofits will be able to purchase and install solar systems on their property to generate pollution-free electricity or heat water.
